Chris Moore

Chris Moore is a British Artist born in Yorkshire in 1947 who has discovered the course of many years provided artwork and illustrations for most of the famous science fiction writers of the last century. His clientele include Philip K Dick,  Arthur C Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Larry Niven, even Lucas Films used him for some of "The Empire Strikes back" artwork. In addition, he has done record covers for Rod Stewart, Fleetwood Mac, Status Quo and has done non-fcition covers for Frederick Forsyth, Jackie Colling and Jeffery Archer.

Although he is an accomplished artist for any type or work, it is his science fiction illustrations which really define him and most of his paintings consist of futuristic scenes, imagined far away worlds and the like where amazing use of bold colours captures the imagination and makes you think "could there things really happen" and they look beyond belief or something we could just not imagine in our world.

He started Oil and watercolour - using watercolour the most of his famous work - although in recent years he has started producing artwork digitally on the computer. I liked the works of Chris Moore because the colours are so electric, with a large amout of electric blue which tends to awaken imagination. He portrays many imaginary worlds, space ships, and outer space - which is very conducive to the gaming world imagination and  I can imagine many of his paintings being used as inspiration for games/films/books.

A friend of mine bought 8 Chris Moore originals which were used as book cover illustrations and this is how I came to know Chris Moore as I saw the originals hanging up.

Beyond lies the Wub

This particular illustration caught my eye because of the desolate landscape punctuated by futuristic looking towers which could be complete cities, planetary shields, energy pylons or a combination of all. The space ship invokes the ideas of someone flying off on a mission to do something and thus would give many game ideas from space ship missions to protecting the planet, discovery, etc.
