Digital painting

Derelict/overgrown city





For this project we had to choose a theme from toxic jungle or overgrown city. I chose the overgrown city, although my choice of plants also verges on toxic jungle. The overgrown city theme was to create a digital painting of an overgrown city set in the future. I started with the idea of a plant on the hill leading into the foreground where the houses could be seen obviously destroyed by the plants and then onto high-rise buildings again plant infested. Finally the background cityscape with a specular sunset. I used Photoshop and a graphics tablet to create the picture. 

The plants were done in a toxic green with orange on the leaves and looking to the top left, the plant is just in the process of bringing down an advert panel which is causing the electrical sparking. The windows were all made using gradient fill and transparency layers. Perspective has been altered to give the impression that the plants are actually moving buildings and thus give the impression of many different perspectives.  The chosen colour scheme are predominantly green, yellow and orange which is an analogous scheme which correlates well with colour schemes found in nature.

As a composition I have used the rule of odds for the plant, the rule of thirds splitting the sky and background, the hill in the foreground and the ruined buildings in the middle.

Mjolnir SUMMARY This model was fascinating to do because it involved using many different tools which took a lot of time researching on the internet. This was a very time consuming project not only because there was a lot to learn and a lot to do, but also because I decided to use a drawing program to create the curves for the ornament details. I found this technique on the internet whereby I could draw curves in a drawing program such as Photoshop or CorelDraw and then export them as EPS (encapsulated postscript) file. This was easier than trying to model the curves directly in Maya. However, I obviously had to install the drawing program and to do that I also had to upgrade my internet explorer and to do that...............(Further, I wish I had found out earlier that I could have used Photoshop to create EPS Files as then I would not have had to install CorelDraw and learn a bit of that because I already know Photoshop a little - Grrr!). Animation Skills - Exercise 4

Walk Animation For this week's assignment we were asked to produce an animation of  a character walking. Obviously to be able to produce any animation, one has to understand the mechanics involved in the actual event we are trying to animate, be it a living being or a mechanical object. Studying a character we can see that the legs have hip, knee and ankle joints to facilitate movement. The animation starts from the hip joint, followed by the knee joint and finally the ankle joint to move the legs in opposition one leg after another. In addition to the legs moving, the arms do similarly alternating in opposition to each leg. I therefore created approximately 10 drawings in different stages of the cycle showing mostly the hip joint and shoulder joint movement with some movement of  elbow, knee and ankle.
