Animation Skills - Exercise 1

I chose a 3D animation from League of  Legends, made by Riot Games. It was made for the start of Season 8 and in my opinion this video is supposed to give you the motivation to start your new season's climb through the ranks.

Narrative:
It starts with Yasuo playing his flute calmly and quietly. The figure looks quite realistic, his fingers look very real for an animation. Suddenly he is disturbed by an arrow landing close by which is followed by many others. This signifies a start of the action and he whirls into motion using his sword to block many arrows' paths before taking a giant leap out of their path.

The scene then cuts to Taliyah, the stoneweaver, trying to escape from a disaster. She is using her powers to create terrain to shield herself from harm and to continue her journey. Shortly after she avoided the explosions, the animation transcends to Ekko the boy who shattered time. He creates an alternate version of himself that bats a time grenade towards the enemies. As he is going up the stairs Blitzcrank uses his rocket grab to pull the enemies to him which are then stunned by Ekko's grenade who jumps on one after another before falling into an abyss.

The scene fades into Miss Fortune swimming underwater and trying to get away from Illaoi's tentacles before fading again into a scene of zombie apocalypse with millions of undead being killed off  by Lucian. He fights and climbs his way upwards killing thousands on his way to the top and jumps towards a waiting Thresh.

Lucian is all fired up and ready to go having killed everything in his path and now faces what seems to be an epic duel with Thresh at the top of his climb. The animation ends suddenly before we know the outcome of the titanic battle. This whole animation is intended to represent a Summoner's climb from the beginning of the season towards an unattainable goal and it infers that the player should get started quickly before he/she is overwhelmed by monsters.

I liked this animation because it looks realistic, the action sequences were not too close up and too fast thus enabling me to follow the story easily and in fact would enable anyone to follow this story whether they knew the background or not. If an animation is too fast and too close you can not follow a story, you can not understand the thread of animation. This particular animation because it slows down in the right places and zooms out in the right places, it allows us to follow the animation more easily.

There are many characters in this video, some very human like, others robot or monster like and each one looks realistic compared to what it should be. They in fact are true to their league of legends background portraying their true skills from the game. Thus anyone watching this animation would have some idea of some of the abilities of the depicted champions.
